Fight Fat with Vinegar

When we think of vinegar what do we typically think of, salad dressings, marinades, chutney and relish, weight loss aid?

That’s right, Swedish researchers have discovered that vinegar added to a white bread based meal suppresses the rise in glucose levels following the meal, while at the same time increasing the feeling of fullness.

By reducing the glycaemic index (GI) of a meal and controlling the feelings of hunger, vinegar could prove to be a much overlooked aid in helping those on a weight loss diet.

If that wasn’t enough, consider Japan where vinegar is celebrated for its ability to fight fatigue, increase circulation and is used as a drink to promote good health.

Diabetes: The three main types

{ Posted by Gina Dowding }
{ 7:52 PM, 2007-Apr-10 } { Posted in Diabetes } { 0 comments } { Link }

What are the three main types of diabetes?

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes, previously known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is usually first diagnosed in children, teenagers, or young adults. In this form of diabetes, the beta cells of the pancreas cease to manufacture insulin due to the body’s immune system having attacked and destroyed them. Treatment for type 1 diabetes involves administering insulin shots or using an insulin pump, making sensible food choices, regular exercise, controlling blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and for some, taking aspirin daily.

Type 2 Diabetes

Previously known as adult-onset or noninsulin-dependent diabetes, type 2 diabetes is the commonest form of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes can develop at any stage in life, including childhood. This particular form of diabetes typically starts with insulin resistance, a condition in which fat, muscle, and liver cells are unable to properly use insulin. In the beginning, the pancreas manages to meet the added demand by producing more insulin. Eventually, however, it fails to maintain enough insulin in response to meals. People who become overweight and physically inactive are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes. Treatment includes taking diabetes medicines, making sensible food choices, regular exercise, controlling blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and for some, taking aspirin daily.

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes is caused by the hormones of pregnancy or a shortage of insulin.  This type of diabetes is developed by some women in the later stages of pregnancy. After the birth of the child this particular form of diabetes often goes away, however, the mother is at greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes at some stage later in life.

What is Type 2 Diabetes?

Diabetes is the disease in which blood glucose levels rise above normal. Anyone with diabetes has problems converting food to energy. After eating, food is broken down into a sugar called glucose. The glucose is carried by the blood to cells throughout the body. In order to help cells process blood glucose into energy, they require the hormone insulin, which is made in the pancreas.

People develop type 2 diabetes because the cells in the muscles, liver, and fat are unable to use insulin properly. Ultimately, the pancreas cannot make sufficient insulin for the body’s needs. As a result, the quantity of glucose in the blood increases, at the same time as the cells are starved of energy.

Over a number of years, high blood glucose damages nerves and blood vessels, resulting in complications such as heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease, nerve problems, gum infections, and amputation.

How to prevent type 2 diabetes

Research has shown that people at risk for type 2 diabetes can stop or delay developing type 2 diabetes by simply losing a little weight. The results of the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) demonstrated that moderate changes in diet and physical activity can delay and prevent type 2 diabetes.

The people Participating in the Federally funded study of 3,234 people at high risk for diabetes, experienced a 5- to 7-percent weight loss. As an example, a 5- to 7-percent weight loss for someone weighing 200-pounds would be 10 to 14 pounds lost.

Those people participating in the study were overweight and had higher than normal levels of blood glucose, a condition called pre-diabetes, also known as impaired glucose tolerance. Pre-diabetes and obesity are both significant risk factors for type 2 diabetes.

Due to the high risk for diabetes among some minority groups, approximately half of the DPP participants were African American, American Indian, Asian American, Pacific Islander, or Hispanic/Latino.

Also included amongst the DPP participants were others at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes, such as women with a history of gestational diabetes also individuals aged 60 and over.

The DPP tested two specific ways for preventing diabetes: lifestyle change—a program of healthy eating and appropriate exercise—and the diabetes drug metformin.

People in the lifestyle change group undertook about 30 minutes of exercise a day, 5 days a week, usually by walking, and lowered their daily consumption of fat and calories. Those who took the diabetes drug metformin also received an exercise and diet plan.  A third group received the exercise and diet plan only.

The data showed those people in the lifestyle change group reduced their risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58 percent. In the first year of the study, people experienced an average weight loss of 15 pounds. Lifestyle change was even more effective in the 60 and older age group. They showed a reduced risk of 71 percent. People receiving metformin demonstrated a 31 percent risk reduction.

Coffee on the Brain

Some interesting information on the wonderful coffee bean.

Cup of Coffee

Research from Europe suggests three cups of coffee a day may help to reduce the decline of mental function in older men.

This is just one more piece of data in support of the increasing amount of research information that highlights the connection between improved cognitive function, and coffee drinking.

According to a previous Austrian report, caffeine has been shown to improve brain function through its direct effect on specific parts of the brain.

It is generally accepted that mental performance naturally declines with age. The results from this study however demonstrate that men who consumed coffee daily, over a ten year period, showed a reduced rate of decline compared to those who did not.

Whole Grains

Whole grains are believed to be nutritionally superior to refined grains, richer in dietary fiber, antioxidants, protein and in particular the amino acid lysine, dietary minerals including magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, and selenium, and vitamins including niacin, vitamin B6, and vitamin E.

What are whole grains?
Whole grains are cereal grains which retain the bran and germ as well as the endosperm, in contrast to refined grains which retain only the endosperm.
In other words, it's a grain that still has its outer covering, which contains the grain's fiber and many of its vitamins and minerals.

Cereal Grains.
These include bread, pasta, breakfast cereal and flour, which are made from rice wheat, oats, barley and rye.

  1. They are low in fat.
  2. They are good sources of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and protein.
  3. They can be fixed and eaten in many ways.

Choose a whole grain (oatmeal, wheat) variety when you have hot cereal, or a cold breakfast cereal that provides at least 4 grams of fiber for serving.

Common whole grain products include oatmeal, popcorn, brown rice, whole wheat flour, sprouted grains and whole wheat bread

Have whole wheat varieties of pancakes, waffles or muffins.

In recipes that call for flour, use at least half whole wheat flour.

For dinner at least twice a week, serve whole wheat noodles, brown rice, brown pasta or bulgur (cracked wheat).

Try higher fiber cracker varieties, such as whole rye crackers, whole grain flatbread, or some of the new multigrain crackers. Check the label to make sure you're choosing a low-fat variety.

Take Action with the Healthy Food Guide

This guide is designed to make it easy to fit low-fat, high-fiber and lots of nutritious food into your busy schedule.   Most people are very busy these days, so have less time than they used to for shopping and for planning what to eat.

Much research in the last few years has shown that the way people eat has a lot to do with how healthy they are  and how healthy they stay.  This research has also shown that eating a healthy diet, low in fat, high in fiber, with plenty of fruits and vegetables may help to lower cancer risk, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
People have heard the message.  They've begun to make changes in the foods they choose and the ways these foods are cooked and served. Still, most people are eating too much fat and not enough fiber, fruits and vegetables.  People have questions about which choices to make.

Hopefully this guide will answer your question and make that choice a lot easier.

Action List for Fruit and Vegetables

Did you know there are at least four great reasons to eat more fruits and vegetables?

  1. It is easy to do.
  2. Almost all are low in calories and fat.
  3. They are a good source of vitamins and minerals and provide fiber.
  4. They may help reduce cancer risk, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Here are some actions steps to get you started. Pick one or two steps and then keep adding to them, they will soon become a new healthy habit for you.

  •  Buy many kinds and lots of different colors of fruits and vegetables when you shop, so you have plenty of choices, and you don't run out. Buy frozen, dried, and canned as well as fresh fruits and vegetables.

  • First, use the fruits and vegetables that go bad easily (peaches, asparagus). Save hardier varieties (apples, acorn squash) or frozen and canned types for later in the week.

  • Use the salad bar to buy cut-up fruits/vegetables if you're in a hurry.

  • Keep a fruit bowl, small packs of applesauce, raisins or other dried fruit on the kitchen counter, table, or in the office. But be a little more careful with these as they are high in sugar.

  • Pack a piece of fruit or some cut-up vegetables in your briefcase or backpack, so when you need a snack you have your fruit or veggie with you, so no need for a chocolate bar. Carry moist wet wipes for easy cleanup.

  • Keep a bowl of cut-up vegetables on the top shelf of the refrigerator. This will help when you’re having a snack attack.

  • Add fruit to breakfast by drinking 6 oz of 100 percent fruit juice try and do half juice and half water, it may taste different at first but you will get use to it very quickly or by having fruit on cereal.

  • Add fruits and vegetables to lunch by having them in soup, salad, or cut-up raw.

  • Add fruits and vegetables to dinner by microwaving or steaming vegetables and having a special fruit desert. By steaming or microwaving you are keeping all there goodness, so make sure they are not too soft, the harder they are the better they are for you.

  • Try kidney beans or black-eyed peas. It's a fast and easy way to use beans and peas without cooking them from scratch.

  • Use beans as a dip for vegetables or filling for sandwiches.

  • Serve soup made from beans or peas - minestrone, split-pea, black bean, or lentil (once a week or more).

  • Try black-eyed peas or black beans as a vegetable side dish with meat or fish.

How It All Started!

Boy Million.

Well, here he is, the little Boy the whole Internet is talking about “Boy Million”
Make sure you check back soon as I will be keeping you up to date with what this little lad is up to and how he can help you get your website professionally promoted using organic natural growth (which the search engines love by the way) with a link to your site that is being promoted for a minimum of 3 years, 24/7. To help you promote your site you will also be given 100.00’s of dollars worth of business e-books and software, which is being constantly updated.

Oh, and I almost forgot to tell you how much all of this will set you back, are you ready? For all this, the grand total is just one single payment of $5 (that’s right, 5 dollars) and NO UP SELL!!

To start you off here is his story.

The Beginning...

Every once in awhile, a dream is born. One that the masses seem to share and they hope for, but have no idea how to attain. This is one such story. A story of a little boy that found a hope, his dream, and a place in the world where he could accomplish anything. In the dream of finding a home, he found so much more than that. This little boy, being an orphan out on his own since his birth, he yearned for a place where he could be part of a family, a place of where he could learn and grow and become what he knew he could be.
This little boy became the apple of Daddy Morebucks eye when they met for the first time. A strong, smart, and savvy man, that had a lifetime of experience and guidance that he too had gained over the years from other kind and smart people. But these two needed each other. Yes, I guess you could say, fate was happy that day as this small orphan boy and this independent successful giant became a family. Neither had any idea how miraculous this union would be, but as time went on, it was very apparent, that Daddy Morebucks was raising a little Boy Million.
In a very short time, with the example, teachings, and heart that Daddy Morebucks had, our cute little Boy Million became a fast student for the success that he saw on a daily basis. What this little lad learned was deep and complex in many ways, and simple and easy in so many ways. What he learned, was that if you put people first and their dreams as important as your own, you can have success beyond your wildest dreams.
There was a story that little Boy Million was told over and over by his Daddy Morebucks. One of 'paying it forward' and honoring the human spirit and dreams of those around you. If you help those that want help, they will in turn help you reach your own dreams. This concept was called 'win/win' said Daddy Morebucks.
Now if there ever was a life that had changed from nothing to becoming Boy Million, it was this little boy. He came up with an idea that he told Daddy Morebucks one night as they sat on his bed at storytime and talked about this incredible idea. See, what this tiny lad had already realized is how very lucky HE was for having been taken in, for having been sheltered, taught, and raised the clear path to becoming anything you dream of. This was what he wanted to share with others, like Daddy Morebucks had with him.
As they sat and spoke that night, Daddy Morebucks realized the genius and huge heart his little son had within him. He listened as little Boy Million told him of a way to help so many, and to do this in a way that he could help them for years to come. That he would show them a way to a dream, like he had been shown. He wanted to teach them how to create a million dollars, as he saw his Daddy Morebucks do all the time. But he was so smart in his observations. Daddy Morebucks eyes misted up as his throat seemed to tighten with pride listening to this boy tell him how he saw so much when he was out on his own.
Of those Gurus out there that didn't care about the people. How they too could make a million dollars, but left an empty space where they had gone. People were still hungry and alone and the Guru was wealthy. Hardly seemed right to him. He saw people ask for help. Try to follow these rich men to learn what they could by just watching, being around them.
But that seemed to be an impossible task that was so unwanted by those that had already made their fortune. So they continued to try to find ways to gather together the hints and lessons that would show them how to become free, like they dreamed. Little boy million was able to see that his Daddy Morebucks was a different man. A Guru that was a Professional that found a way to change the paradigm of the way to achieve success online.
What this little guy wanted to do was to provide them a way to get the same advantage as the Big Boys out there had. He learned early on that exposure to other people made it possible to create a path to freedom. It was 3 big words that he caught onto early in his young life. Those 3 big words were Search Engine Optimization.
He noticed that those that understood these words were successful. And those that did not, were hungry and struggling. He saw Daddy Morebucks use his tools and 'SEO Engine' as he called it, and it made such an impression on him that he wanted to teach others to do what he himself had learned. This is where that dream comes from, he told Daddy Morebucks.
After he explained this huge dream of teaching everyone that wished to be taught, how to be a better marketer, he would gift them a link on Daddy Morebucks SEO Engine that would make sure that they had the same advantage to compete with the Big Boys. And he would only charge them $5 to be part of his dream and get all the education they need. He was so giddy about what he saw in this idea he was bouncing all over his bed telling Daddy Morebucks. Not sure he slept much that night, but I know that Daddy Morebucks didn't.
Instead after little Boy Million had finally dozed off, he went into his attic and found his most prized possession - his very first piggy bank. He knew that Boy Million would LOVE this special gift - and he would share that with him tomorrow, after he had rested and dreamed more of his great idea.
That little pink piggy bank he was given from his father when he too was just a boy he kept to always remind him that dreams can be reached and that people can become financially free. He never thought he would have a boy of his own that he would be able to give it too, but now, all of that had changed and it was now time for his boy to begin to fill his very own piggy bank as he taught others to do the same. A remarkable story indeed would now begin.
Then a bell went off in Daddy Morebucks head that night - he had to reach his friends at Guinness and get a reporter out here right away, yep, his very own little boy was going to be making a World Record in more than one way and he should go down in history for the World's longest promoted link page in history. He will be the Internets youngest boy millionaire too, how remarkable is that, he thought to himself. And bringing up so many others to join him and benefit to, just made his buttons burst with pride.
The sun was beginning to rise as he shined and polished his childhood friend - his old little piggy bank and put it up on his shelf to wait for it's meeting it's new owner, little Boy Million. Those two would become fast partners just as Daddy Morebucks had when he was a boy, and off they would go to accomplish this worthy goal and dream, changing the future of the Internet, the Gurus, the marketers, and the way to SEO success. All from a remarkable little boy and a dream. Won't you join him?
